About Us

Healing Journey provides trauma-informed online therapy and remote counselling services based in Ontario, Canada.

Among other communities, Healing Journey provides therapy and counselling services online to LGBTQ, Non-monogamous, Indigenous, and Individual persons. Our therapy modalities include EMDR Therapy, Safe and Sound Protocol, & Narrative Therapy, among others.

What can I do in my online counselling session?

You can bring anything to the table but you do not have to bring every detail of everything that you have been through. It is important that for talking about trauma events, you do not share every single detail as this will only serve to re-traumatize you.

What is most important for us to look at is the past event’s connection to the present, what other patterns this event may connect to, and what this event brings up for you in terms of thoughts, feelings in the body, and emotions.

You can bring up goals, questions about behaviors or thought processes that you have noticed, symptoms of mental health you are dealing with, problems you are having in your life that you would like solutions to, relationships that are not going as well as you would like. You can also request that your helper to do deeper trauma work with you and we can start to connect past events to present issues.

Previous to any modality or deep trauma work, it is important that we look into the costs and benefits of that particular type of therapy before we begin. We will connect the modality to your specific goals and we collaborate to look at if this could be effective or not. We will also adapt any modality that is needed to your specific needs.

We have client-centered helpers; so you decide when our work together ends, if you want to see your helper more or less, and you can tell us in session whether or not you want to go in a particular direction or not.

Additionally, you can book yourself in through Healing Journey’s online booking system on Jane when you would like to, you do not have to have a regular slot. You can book online when you need to see your helper and there is no limit with this.

I am a queer, non-binary social worker who is trauma-informed. I have lived experience as a neurodiverse person, spoonie, and a trauma survivor. I am trained in narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, DBT, CBT, EMDR, and Unyte-iLs’s SSP and Focus (that is based upon Polyvagal theory).

I am a queer, neurodivergent, polyamorous, feminist, and cisgender white woman. I am committed to anti-oppression, social justice, and the self-reflection and lifelong unlearning this requires. I have been practicing social work since 2012 with a focus on issues related to queer and trans folks, body neutrality, harm reduction, and body-based trauma recovery modalities.

The Healing Journey Process

Step 1: Book a Consultation

You can book a consultation with one of our team members online through Jane or by emailing our admin or the practitioner of your choice. During a consultation call which can be by phone or video call, we will talk from 15 to 30 minutes about what you are looking for in a helper and the process of therapy, what we are able to offer you, and you are able to ask questions you would like to know before you start your work with us.

Step 2: Onboarding

If you decide to work with Healing Journey, you will be sent an intake that you will need to fill out that includes consent forms. We are looking for information that is important for us to provide proper care to you and this includes an emergency contact for safety planning purposes. If for any reason, you are unable to fill this intake out and need additional help, please reach out to our admin person at email, info@healingjourneycounselling.ca. If you do not fill this out within a week, our admin person will be sending you a reminder to fill it out so that you do not forget about it.

Step 3: Counselling & Therapy

How our therapeutic work goes depends on what you want and what kind of healing you are looking for, we have practitioners who are able to do deep trauma work through EMDR and narrative therapy and on the opposite side, a practitioner who can help heal the autonomic nervous system (ANS) through passive types of therapy that are less invasive to the system, such as SSP and Focus through Unyte-iLs. At Healing Journey, we are integrative helpers and we pull from a multitude of modalities and approaches that we can use to support your healing in a way that works for you.

Step 4: Journey to Healing

Once you are on your journey with us, feel free to let us know how we can be the best practitioner for you, we love to hear how you feel about the work we do together and how our relationship is going. We are continuous learners and we may learn new approaches, techniques, and modalities along the way to add to our resources to help support you. It is your choice when therapy ends and you can leave when you feel the work is done or you can continue long term therapy work.
