What can I do in my online counselling session?
During your sessions you can bring anything to the table you would like, but you do not have to delve into every detail of everything that you have been through. It’s important when talking about traumatic events to set limits and not overshare to avoid re-traumatization. You set the pace, the boundaries, and decide what information to share.
It is most important for us to look at the connection between the events in your past and where you are in the present, what current patterns this event may connect to, and what these experiences bring up for you in terms of thoughts, emotions, and feelings in the physical body.
You can come to us with goals, questions about behaviors or thought processes that you have noticed, symptoms of mental health that you are dealing with, problems you are having in your life that you would like solutions to, or relationships that are not going as well as you would like. You can also request that your helper to do deeper trauma work with you, and we can start to connect past events and experiences to present issues.
Importantly, previous to any modality or deep trauma work, we will look into the costs and benefits of that particular type of therapy before we begin. The modality will be connected to your specific goals, and we work together to determine the most effective approaches. We will also adapt any modality that is needed to your specific needs.
We are client-centered helpers so you decide whether or not you want to go in a particular direction, if you want to see your helper more or less, or when our work together ends.
Additionally, we have accessible self-booking through Healing Journey’s online booking system through Jane. Appointments are for when you would like, and you do not have to have a regular slot. You simply book online when you need to see your helper, and there is no limit with this.
Every journey begins with the first step.
The Healing Journey Process
Step 1: Book a Consultation
You can book a consultation with one of our helpers online through JaneApp or by emailing our administrator or chosen practitioner directly. During the consultation call, which can be by phone or video call, we will talk for 15 minutes about what you are looking for in a helper, the process of therapy and what we are able to offer you, and you have the ability to ask questions before you start your work with us.

Step 2: Onboarding
If you decide to work with Healing Journey, you will be sent an intake form that you will need to fill out including consent forms. This information is important in order for us to provide the proper care to you, and this includes an emergency contact for safety planning purposes. If, for any reason, you are unable to complete the intake form and need additional help, please reach out to our admin person by email at info@healingjourneycounselling.ca. If you do not fill this out within a week, our admin person or your helper will send you a reminder to do so.
Step 3: Counselling & Therapy
The pace of our therapeutic work depends on your wants, needs, and what kind of healing you are looking for. Our helpers are able to do deep trauma work through EMDR and narrative therapy and, on the opposite side, a helper who can heal the autonomic nervous system (ANS) through passive types of therapy that are less invasive to the system (such as SSP and Focus through Unyte-iLs). At Healing Journey, we are integrative helpers, and we pull from a multitude of modalities and approaches used to support your healing in a way that works for you.
